To encourage consumers to reduce the amount of food they waste, and to help those who are unable to compost at home, we are supporting Food Waste Action Week 2023 with a variety of awareness activities.
Now in its third year, Food Waste Action Week aims to reduce the affect that food waste has on the environment. From 6th to 12th March, campaigners will be highlighting ways in which we can make small changes to our behaviour that, together, can have a larger impact on climate change. The 2023 initiative theme, ‘Win. Don’t Bin’, hopes to enhance the use of leftovers in the home, as unused leftovers contribute significantly to the amount of food waste generated.
To support and inspire consumers on their journey to reduce food waste, we have collaborated with a chef who specialises in sustainable cooking, Bettina Campolucci Bordi. With Google searches for ‘what to do with leftover vegetables’ increasing by 17 per cent in the last year1, Bettina has created a simple, yet delicious, Beans & Greens Fridge Raid recipe that utilises an assortment of vegetables, in collaboration with InSinkErator®. In the Instagram recipe video, Bettina demonstrates an InSinkErator® food waste disposer, highlighting how it can dispose of inedible food waste safely and hygienically.
Despite our best efforts, some inedible food waste is inevitable. A food waste disposer is a modern, convenient and discreet food waste solution for the kitchen, reducing food waste in the bin, especially where home composting is not possible. For disposing of food waste safely and hygienically, a food waste disposer fits neatly under the sink, out of sight, without compromising the overall look of the kitchen. To promote Food Waste Action Week and support consumers that are unable to compost inedible food waste at home, InSinkErator® is hosting giveaways for consumers to win their very own food waste disposer.
Anne Kaarlela, Marketing Communications & Customer Service Manager UK and Europe, InSinkErator®, says: “We’re delighted to have collaborated with Bettina again this year to create a recipe for Food Waste Action Week. We wholeheartedly support the objectives of the initiative, and with an IBM study highlighting that over half the respondents stated that environmental sustainability is more important to them than it was a year ago2, we hope that the awareness and education Food Waste Action Week provides has a positive impact on the future of our planet.
“At InSinkErator®, we are committed to providing lifestyle enhancing solutions, which promote hygiene in the kitchen, are convenient to use and are safe within the home. The Beans & Greens Fridge Raid recipe will be shared with over 139,000 Instagram users and over 1.8 million readers have the opportunity to win an InSinkErator® food waste disposer, raising awareness of our products with consumers and driving demand for InSinkErator® trade partners too.”
