InSinkErator® Walking the Walk of Environmental Sustainability
When a company builds a product that has a profoundly positive impact on the environment, it makes sense the company headquarters is as advanced and environmentally-responsible as the product it makes. That’s what InSinkErator has done, opening a new corporate headquarters and Innovation Center November 7.
“Our products promote environmental sustainability by their very nature,” said Chad Severson, president of InSinkErator. “Our new headquarters and labs are a reflection of that nature - a state-of-the-art facility maximizing cutting-edge technology, but also incredibly easy to use and functional, just like our products.”
The new 87,000 square foot building was designed to qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It features abundant natural light; walking paths along the campus; water use reduction initiatives; efficient energy use and more.
In addition to the environmentally-friendly, LEED-qualified design, the building is constructed around an advanced technological hub. Inside, visitors find:
- Commercial Solutions and Grind2Energy Lab: Houses research for innovative, sustainable products to handle food waste where people live, shop and dine, and turn it into renewable energy.
- Grind Test Lab and Kitchen: New testing labs and kitchens help engineers determine how to make disposers capable of grinding even the toughest food waste that make up diets around the globe.
- Hemi-Anechoic Chamber Sound Lab: A sound testing chamber that eliminates noise contamination to test the sound pressure, intensity and power of food waste disposers.
- 3D Printing and Innovation Area: Rapid prototyping from the 3D printing center moves new products from ideas to consumer homes quickly.
These technologies provide InSinkErator engineers and professionals the tools to bring products to market that make sustainability a matter of convenience, not hassle.
InSinkErator invented food waste disposers, and the next revolutionary idea will likely come soon. Learn more about InSinkErator at insinkeratorworks.com.
